Nancy Fay Jackson
SAVANNAH - Nancy Fay Jackson, 64, died peacefully on June 7, 2012, after a 35 year valiant battle with Muscular Dystrophy. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Savannah, GA, born on November 24, 1947, to Robert "Bob" & Louise Jackson, who predeceased her, along with her brother Robbie. She proudly graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1965 and received her BA in Art History from Georgia Southern in 1970. During her early career, she was a Concierge at The Plaza Hotel in NYC and then became an Art Historian at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. For several years, she served the Catholic Diocese of Savannah as Director of the Vietnamese Resettlement Office. She taught for 10 years at Sacred Heart Interparochial School in Savannah, and also had teaching assignments at St. James, St. Peter the Apostle & Blessed Sacrament Catholic Schools. She served as a Case Worker specializing in Child Protective Services for 14 years at the Department of Family & Children Services, until her illness prevented her from continuing. However, she always loved teaching and continued to privately tutor many young students. Nancy was devoted to her Alma Mater, St. Vincent's Academy. She was a past President of the SVA Alumnae Association and a charter member of the SVA Alumnae Chorus. She was a devout communicant of the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, where she was a member of the 11:30 Choir and a former Director of the Cathedral CCD program.
She is survived by extended family friends & caretakers: Patty Schreck & family, Mike & Bernadette Winters & family, as well as many other devoted and close friends, and her faithful little Sheltie, Katie.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 16th, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, with visitation in the church one hour before the Mass. Interment to follow at Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances to the Patty Schreck Scholarship Fund at St. Vincent's Academy, 207 E. Liberty St., Savannah, GA 31401.
